Professor Eric Huggett
I’m a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Professor Marcio Antony, promoted in 2023. I was born and raised here in South Delta, and I’ve been fortunate to be part of this community—both on and off the mats—for many years. Teaching jiu-jitsu has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey, and I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all ages, from kids just starting out to adults looking to challenge themselves and grow.
My interest in martial arts goes beyond jiu-jitsu, with a love for combat sports in general. I’ve followed the UFC for years and have always been drawn to both striking and grappling. What really fascinates me, though, is the strategy behind it all. I’ve always been interested in chess, poker, gaming, and AI—anything that involves systems, problem-solving, and high-level strategy. I’m especially interested in game theory and the “meta-game” side of jiu-jitsu: finding patterns, creating dilemmas, and translating broader strategic principles into something that works on the mats.
Whether I’m coaching or training, I’m always trying to better understand the underlying rules that make techniques effective—not just how to do something, but why it works. My goal as a coach is to help others see those connections too, and to approach their training with curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

I’m a coach and co-owner here at Delta BJJ, and I also run the business side of things—everything from social media and outreach to making sure classes, systems, and operations flow smoothly behind the scenes. I’m born and raised in South Delta, and extremely grateful to call it home.
I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2020, walking into my first class with zero knowledge of the sport—and immediately fell in love with it. What drew me in was the mental side of the art. I always say BJJ is like being handed a Rubik’s Cube, solving it, then being handed a 4x4, then a 5x5… it's an endless puzzle, and that’s exactly what makes it so captivating.
As a smaller grappler, I’ve had to rely on perfecting my technique in order to be effective against larger and stronger training partners. That’s one of the things I love most about jiu-jitsu—it levels the playing field. You don’t have to be the biggest or the strongest to succeed; you just need the right knowledge. That’s incredibly empowering.
Beyond the technical side, I have a special interest in using jiu-jitsu as a tool for self-defence, improving mental health, and healing. For many people—including myself—BJJ can be a powerful way to process and move through trauma, build resilience, and reconnect with your body and sense of agency.
Off the mats, I run my own video production company, enjoy running, yoga and Muay Thai (even though I’m bad at it!), and am a huge music nerd. I’ve been a guitarist for 20 years and received my Bachelor’s of Applied Music degree in 2016 majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Instrumental Studies.
